HUNTER STREET STUDIOS – Queenstown 1998 – 2003

After graduating with a BFA from UTas, Annette relocated to the remote mining town of Queenstown on the West Coast of Tasmania and established Hunter Street Studios – a centre for Art Practice and Art Education as Sole Trader and Teacher.


  • March – work began on major renovations to the condemned building that once housed the  classrooms of the adjacent Technical College – re-stumping, new floor, walls, external doors, patio, rainforest garden planted on gravel netball court.
  • June – Adult Art Education began at 8 Hunter Street Queenstown at the new Studios.
  • 8 week courses were conducted in Ceramics, Painting, Photography & Digital Imaging
  • December 1998 – Official Opening by Mayor Darryl Gerrity– Nuance & Whimsy Exhibition of Paintings by Craig Ball and Peter Waddle
  • 180 clients graduated between 1998 and 2002.
  • Services extended – Studios open for public use – Photographic Studio & Darkroom facilities, Painting Studio, Ceramics Studio and facilities.

1997 Founding Committee Member Mt. Lyell Abt Railway Society, Hobart Representative, Commuted to Queenstown meetings while at Uni. lobbied Hobart politicians & general public, from 1993 until announcement of successful bid in 1997 for $20.45 mill. Prime Minister’s Federation Fund.
1998 Abt Railway Public Lecture Series at Hunter Street Studios for tourism operators, business people and the general community. Guest Speaker – Viv Crocker.
1999 Abt Community Education Officer for Project Managers & State Government
